The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA is looking for Swim Coaches to join their team at the Four Townes Family YMCA.
General Function
The Swim Coach provides excellent customer service while coaching the swim team and assisting with the production of a quality swim team program. The Swim Coach creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the YMCA of Volusia Flagler policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform assigned coaching responsibilities, including practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling.
- Lead swimmers through organized and preplanned daily practices to achieve higher levels of technique.
- Design seasonal plans tailored for the various levels of abilities and strengths.
- Assist with the coordination and set up of any/all VFYMCA hosted swim meets or team events as needed/assigned.
- Supervise swim meets, including warm-ups, practice , etc., to ensure the safety of the swimmers.
- Follow and promote all facility and team policies and procedures as needed.
- Communicate team announcements, changes, etc. with Family Center staff, members and program parents on a weekly basis..
- Create and develop effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
- Take a lead role in the evaluation, placement and registration of new and potential VFYMCA swimmers.
- Know, understand and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Volusia Flagler Family YMCA policies and procedures.
- Attend all staff meetings, monthly in-services and trainings as required.
- Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Volusia Flagler in the Family Center and its programs.
- All other duties assigned by Management.
Education, Training and Experience
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Previous swim coaching experience preferred.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent follow through actions regarding communication.
- Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.
- Demonstrated responsibility and dependability.
- Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding.
Working Conditions
- Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
- Must have the ability to pass a swimming skills test.
- Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members’ well-being.
- Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
