This position oversees the overall health education, fitness and outreach activities for chronic disease prevention programs. This role provides support and guidance to participants in the YMCA’s chronic disease management and prevention programs, and implements standard curriculum designed for these programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in exercise science and a passion for improving the quality of life for program participants through tailored physical activity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Designs and implements safe, effective and engaging exercise programs tailored for individuals with chronic diseases.
2. Leads group classes focusing on mobility, strength, balance and coordination.
3. Educates program participants and their families about the benefits of exercise and strategies for incorporating physical activity into daily life.
4. Serves as the point of contact for and coordinates all aspects of current and future programming (Parkinson’s, LIVESTRONG, Diabetes Prevention, etc.). Stays updated on the latest research and best practices related to exercise for individuals with chronic diseases.
5. Fosters a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and social interaction.
6. Maintains cleanliness and organization of the workout space, ensuring all equipment is safe and accessible.
7. Represents and promotes the B.R. Ryall YMCA in the local community to increase visibility, and grow membership and class participation.
8. Fulfills other duties as assigned to ensure an excellent member experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, human services, recreation or related field preferred.
2. Certified in personal training or group fitness (e.g., Y-USA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, AFAA).
3. Strong understanding of the physical and emotional challenges faced by individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Training (e.g., PWR! Moves, Rock Steady Boxing) specific to or experience working with individuals with Parkinson’s disease is highly preferred.
4. Strong knowledge of exercise techniques and anatomy.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire program participants.
6. Previous experience working with individuals with special needs or chronic conditions is highly desirable.
7. CPR, First Aid and AED certifications will be required; training will be offered if not currently certified.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Must be physically able to demonstrate any and all recommended exercises and routines. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
